Weedings in Dominican Republic

This island paradise, sandwiched between Jamaica and Puerto Rico, offers the ambiance of its more visited neighbors in an affordable, low-key setting. The sheer variety of locales is one of the major draws here, where everything from idyllic beaches and waterfalls, to tropical rainforest and the highest mountains in the Caribbean keep you interested. The prices, of course, go up in the winter months, but in the Dominican Republic, you can often snag a balmy setting for a lower price than on other isles.
Wedding Requirements There is no waiting period or residency requirement to marry in the Dominican Republic. You do, however, need to write the American Consulate in Santo Domingo prior to your wedding date to ask permission to marry in a civil ceremony. It is recommended that you start this process early (a few months before the wedding date) because the required documents, including original copies of your birth certificates and a Single Status Affidavit, must be translated into Spanish. You can do this at the closest Dominican Consulate in the U.S., which can also legalize your Single Status Affidavit (this takes about 2-3 days). Your documents can be sent by mail if you include a pre-paid envelope for their return. When you arrive for the ceremony, you will also need a valid passport with your latest entry stamp and two witnesses with photo identification. For more info, visit godominicanrepublic.com.

HARD ROCK CAFE PUNTA CANA

HARD ROCK CAFE PUNTA CANA, THE PERFECT PLACE TO HAVE ALL THE FUN YOU HAVE DREAMED ABOUT...

AVENTURA ENDED ?

After many years of success, is bachata boy band Aventura breaking up?
The answer, directly from the group, is a big fat NO!
The whole controversy began when Aventura announced that the title for the new album is called The Last, which touched on the contractual agreement (or lack of) with Premium Latino Music.  However, this controversial title has absolutely nothing to do with the band breaking up, at least anytime soon.
Romeo tells People en Espanol:

“Personally, I couldn’t continue my career in this group if we can have the name ‘Aventura.’  All these rumors are stupid.”
Blunt and straight to the point.  That’s how we like our Latin men.
In case you’re still worried, Aventura will continue to work with their current label and make beautiful ballads together. Romeo even joked about changing the band’s name to “Los Santos.”

MERENGUE Y BACHATA

MERENGUE   Y   BACHATA

The music of the Dominican Republic describes its people, passionate and lively. One of the country’s most popular genres is merengue. Native to the Dominican Republic, merengue incorporates swift beats from the güira scraper, maracas percussion, accordion, tambora drum and saxophone to get the hips moving. The aggressive Caribbean sound is believed to have influences from Haiti and Africa, but many prefer to exclude these theories, as Dominicans normally denounce any ties to either country. The genre’s pioneer was Johnny Ventura or “El Caballo”. In the 1960’s he successfully brought merengue to an international stage and paved the way for current popular artists like: Sergio Vargas, Milly Quezada, Ruby Perez and El Jefrey.

Like merengue, the Dominican form of music known as bachata is homegrown and part of the nation’s popular culture. Known for its high pitched guitar sound, bachata is normally played with a guiro scraper, bongo drums, claves (hardwood sticks used for percussion) and one or two guitars. The music style was originally considered “Bolero” (slow paced Latin love song), but after taking on influences from merengue, son and ranchera; bachata developed a style all its own. In 1961, Jose Manuel Calderon recorded what many consider the first bachata singles with “Borracho de Amor” and “Que Sera de mi”. Today, recognized names such as Anthony Santos, Frank Reyes, Aventura and Yoskar Sarante fill the airwaves. Although bachata is a home grown music, in general, Dominicans are puzzled when foreigners visit with bachata spins on the dance floor. For the most part, Dominican dance Bachata “pegao” (very close) with no spins.
